Hits to the Head.

I'm not a real huge fan of all the suspensions and fines in sports nowadays. But with that said, if we can't change the rules they should be consistent. Intended or not, Niklas Kronwall completely destroyed Jake Voracek's head.

No penalty call, no supplemental discipline, nothing. This is an absolute disgrace to the game. Kronwall is a repeat offender and he does nothing but hunt for people on the ice. Players like this should not get away without punishment.

Matt Cooke is a great example. He is a tough guy forward who doesn't electrify much but gets the job done well. He also gets fined on a regular basis for borderline hits, sometimes hits that are completely legal. But because Kronwall is the cornerstone of Detroit's defense corps once Lidstrom retires he is allowed to do whatever he wants?

Alexander Ovechkin, the best player in the league in my opinion, was fined and suspended for an illegal hit. This is a prime example of favoritism. Who knows why but there is some reason Kronwall wasn't disciplined correctly. Nothing outrages me more than favoritism about mandatory rules. These officials need to step up to the plate during the game and Brendan Shanahan needs to get his act together. I really liked him as head of discipline at first but he has lost a whole lot of respect from me.

  1. I agree. I personally feel that the Flyer's are like the red-headed step child of the NHL. It seems like any time our players do something, it is immediately called, while the same infractions by another team are overlooked. I think it's time to call penalties evenly and fairly because let's face it, did you really win when the ref's let you barrel over us? Sort of seems like pee wee and little league sports when the ump/ref was the uncle of a player from the other team that should have told you to just head on home.

  2. I disagree I saw the replay of it, and Vorachek's head was down. I agree it was a high hit, and Kronwall should have aimed for upper body, and not his head. As for no suspensions or anything I wasn't surprised. According to the refs it was a clean hit, Vorachek's head was down and Kronwall didn't jump or anything, he just knocked the shit out of him. I'm 50/50 it was a high hit but you always have to look up.

  3. My defense against your argument Jason is that if that were Scotty Hartnell or Andrei Meszaros it would have been a game misconduct and a 5 game suspension. I don't think there is any question that the league is against philadelphia.

  5. No because they aren't as gritty this year. With loses of Chris Pronger and Ian Laperriere they never filled those voids. Sure guys like Simmonds and Talbot are grinders and they play so great but they are hard nosed. However Zac Rinaldo has been fined because he is made of rubber and no matter who he hits they fly off of him. Almost every big hit he throws is a penalty.

  6. eh i agree philly gets picked out but there really isnt much we can do if kronwall would have left his feet i would of been flipping out if it wasnt a call but they said it was a clean hit i think it was high as hell but we cant do anything about it and hell this is where im 50/50 it was a clean hit but if we would have thrown that same kind of hit we would of gotten in trouble...so something needs to be changed lol
